Men’s basketball will host District rival Georgetown University Hoyas in a preseason exhibition game after last season’s historic matchup gave the Revs its first sellout crowd in a decade.
The game, scheduled for Alumni & Families weekend on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center, marks the second straight season that the Revolutionaries and Hoyas will battle in the preseason after 44 years without playing one another. In last year’s iteration, the Hoyas defeated the Revs 73-64 in front of a sold-out Smith Center, with the capacity listed at 4,287, the highest for a men’s basketball game since 2016.
The pre-season contest sparked an increase in attendance at home games for the Revs, as the average attendance jumped from 1,976 in 2024-25 to 2,271 last season.
Last season, the Revs finished 19-16 and fell in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship to the Saint Louis Billikens 88-81. With their 19 wins, the Revs earned a spot in the National Invitation Tournament, where they won their first-round matchup over Utah Valley University, their first postseason win since 2017, before being eliminated by the University of New Mexico Lobos in round two.
The Hoyas finished last season with a 16-18 record, good for 10th in the Big East. The team reached the semifinals of the Big East tournament after upsetting both No. 6 seeded DePaul University and No. 3 seeded Villanova University, but fell to the University of Connecticut Huskies.
The Revs in October will look to defeat their DC rivals for the first time since 1977 in front of a likely packed Smith Center.
Head Coach Chris Caputo said after last year’s game the competitive matchup and electric atmosphere should pave the way for more games between the D.C. schools.
“I just don’t see a downside for us,” Caputo said during the press conference. “It’s on television, we had a big crowd of our alums and things like that. I’d love to do it every year.”
