Just over a month into her tenure, women’s basketball Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan has started building out the program, hiring four assistant coaches and adding two transfer players earlier this month.
Officials announced last week that John Hampton, Brianna Finch, Macey Hollenshead and Sherill Baker will join Adeduntan’s staff this month as assistant coaches, while Lauren Coleman joined as the director of operations, filling out her five-coach staff. Former Georgetown University guard Jaeda Wilson and Division II Claflin University guard Nya Morris will join the Revolutionaries on the court for the 2025-26 season, the team announced last week on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Adeduntan brings in an entirely new staff to Foggy Bottom — which is routine for a new head coach — replacing the personnel who worked with former Head Coach Caroline McCombs. McCombs stepped down from the position in February after the team compiled a meager 55-65 record in her nearly four years heading the program.
With a new coaching staff in place, Adeduntan aims to bring championship basketball to a program with a history of success, racking up 18 NCAA tournament appearances, the most recent being in 2018.
At Colgate, Adeduntan oversaw improvements in the win-loss column throughout her tenure, with the team jumping from six wins in her first year as head coach in the 2021-22 season to 23 wins last season. She brings two members from her staff at Colgate, Hollenshead and Coleman, who will look to recreate their upstate New York success at GW.
Following her introductory event in early April, Adeduntan said she was looking for potential staff members who understand her drive to build the Revs to a place where they can begin competing for Atlantic 10 titles.
“It was important that I get people that were really, really connected with me in that regard,” Adeduntan said in April. “People that can just do the job without needing a hand to guide. Obviously we’re going to be on the same page and have a lot of conversation, but we just need people who have a lot of experience.”
Hampton joins Adeduntan’s staff after three seasons at Rutgers University, where he worked primarily with the team to build their defensive skills. His duties with the Scarlet Knights included working with the team’s wings and centers. Before Rutgers, Hampton served as the assistant head coach at fellow A-10 school Saint Joseph’s, leading the Hawks to two postseason appearances and an appearance in the 2018 A-10 championship game.
Finch comes to GW after spending four seasons at Boston University as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator before being promoted to associate coach for the last two seasons. She notched consecutive 20-win seasons with the Terriers, including a Patriot League record-setting 17 regular season conference wins in the 2022-23 season. Finch spent one season with Davidson as an Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development and brings 18 years of experience at all levels of coaching to the staff. Finch’s ability to develop talent works well with the young Revs roster.
Hollenshead joins Adeduntan from Colgate, where she spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach. Having worked in scouting, strength programs, recruitment and working with the team’s guards under Adeduntan, her addition to the Revs will aid all facets of the coaching staff. Before coaching at Colgate, Hollenshead was an assistant coach for a season at her alma mater, Fairfield University. The Stags secured an NCAA Tournament appearance with a 19-1 conference record in the 2021-22 season under her leadership.
This will be Baker’s second stint with the Revs. She was a staff member in 2022-23 under McCombs as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. After her lone season at GW, she spent two seasons at Bucknell University, serving as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Baker also worked at Georgia State University for three seasons, as well as Kennesaw State and Auburn universities, holding various positions before her first stint at GW.
Like Hollenshead, Coleman will join Adeduntan from Colgate to GW and serve as the director of operations for women’s basketball, a role she held during her time with the Raiders. Coleman was also an assistant coach at Colgate, working in executive and on-court roles. Before joining the Raiders staff last season, Coleman was an assistant coach at North Platte Community College in Nebraska for two seasons. Coleman also worked prior to the assistant coach role as the program director and head coach of Team Go Get It, a youth travel basketball organization in California.
Adeduntan has also been retooling the roster for this upcoming season, so far adding two players from the transfer portal to contribute this year. At her introductory event, Adeduntan said she was looking for potential transfers who would “fit in” and help the team win with strong play on and a winning mentality off the court.
“I think the players are here, they’re great people and we want to play a certain type of way,” Adeduntan said in April. “So we’re trying to figure out, what’s going to complement, who to bring in and who’s going to help us do this thing quickly?”
Wilson, a native of Potomac, Maryland, started three games for the Hoyas last season and appeared in 24, averaging 4.1 points per game. She reached double-digit scoring twice throughout her season, including at eventual national champions University of Connecticut, where she scored ten points in a December game. Morris brings five years of collegiate basketball experience, split between Claflin and her time at Lackawanna College. She was a dominant scorer this past season, notching 20.2 ppg on 48.2 percent shooting, including 43.8 percent from 3-point territory. Last season, the Revs shot 27.1 percent from beyond the arc, good for 12th in the conference.
