GW Program Board officially announced alternative pop duo The Driver Era as this year’s Spring Fling headliner Wednesday night, after posting and then quickly deleting the reveal on Instagram Friday.
The duo features brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, the former known for his starring role in the 2013 film “Teen Beach Movie.” The performance will take place April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Smith Center, marking the second year in a row the concert has been indoors after years of performances in University Yard.
Like Quavo’s performance last year, this year’s concert will require paid entry, offering a “limited number of student discounted tickets,” according to the post. Tickets went on sale Thursday afternoon, at three tiers: general admission in the stands, between $30.50 for seats in the back of the Smith Center to $40.50 closer up, floor seating at $45.50 and early entry floor seating tickets for $65.50. Students can get $5 off one ticket with their GW email, a Thursday post from Program Board said.
The Thursday post also announced the concert’s opener, indie pop singer Lisa Heller, who has just under 43,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
On Friday, Program Board appeared to announce The Driver Era as this year’s Spring Fling headliner in a post on Instagram. Less than 15 minutes later, they had deleted the post. Program Board’s official announcement Wednesday night was near identical to their now-deleted post from Friday, except for added information about the limited quantity of student discount tickets.
The Driver Era is set to release their fourth studio album “Obsession” on April 11, including their ’80s-infused lead single “You Keep Me Up at Night.” The band has over one million monthly listeners on Spotify, with tracks like “A Kiss” and “Malibu” garnering tens of millions of streams on their own.
This post was updated to include ticket prices and the concert opener posted by Program Board on Thursday afternoon.
