GW will close all campus buildings and centers on Monday in preparation for an expected snowstorm.
The University announced Sunday evening that the Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon and Virginia Science and Technology campuses will be closed on Monday, preventing faculty from holding in-person classes on the first day of the spring semester for GW Law students and some School of Medicine and Health Sciences students. GW’s decision to close the campuses follows the National Weather Service’s forecast of up to 12 inches of snow in D.C. between 10 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Tuesday, and aligns with D.C. officials’ decisions to close public schools and federal offices.
Officials said in an email to community members that in-person classes will be cancelled or held virtually and all activities and University-sponsored events are canceled. The GW Medical Faculty Associates and GW Hospital will remain open, and only essential on-site staff are permitted to work on campus, the email states.
According to the email, residence halls will remain open for students slated to stay in their rooms over winter break, and Mount Vernon Campus Express services will temporarily stop at midnight on Sunday due to the storm. Officials will issue a GW Alert when shuttle services resume, per the email.
Last January GW canceled in-person classes on the first day of the spring semester due to snowfall.
