As a baked cheesy scent from the world’s largest pupusa wafted in the air and colorful costumes filled the streets last weekend, Fiesta DC took over the District.
Fiesta DC, the largest festival celebrating Latino cultures in the DMV area, originated in Mount Pleasant in the 1970s before later moving to Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues. This year’s festivities ran through Saturday and Sunday, with vendors setting up shop along the avenues and a group of 40 Salvadoran chefs breaking the Guinness World Record with a 20-foot pupusa Saturday. The festival’s signature Parade of Nations showcased the music, dances and traditional costumes of countries across Central and South America on Sunday.
