D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a gas leak in Munson Hall on Thursday night.
FEMS Public Information Officer Vito Maggiolo said FEMS dispatched three units and a fire chief to 2212 I Street at 11:24 p.m. in response to a report of a gas leak in the residence hall. Five GW Police Department officers asked all evacuated residents to remain outside until 11:59 p.m. when FEMS completed their work and permitted the students to re-enter the building.
A GWPD officer said he responded to a call from a resident who smelled gas in their room. He said the department called FEMS after discovering that the resident’s gas stove had been left on even though the control knobs indicated the appliance was off.
