Pro-Palestinian protesters allegedly spray-painted the driveway in front of Provost Chris Bracey’s house on Tuesday night, according to an “anonymous submission” to the Student Coalition for Palestine at GWU Instagram.
The coalition posted on Instagram Wednesday a photo of “Disclose divest now” spray-painted onto what protesters claimed was Bracey’s driveway, and another photo of the same message painted on the George Washington bust at the corner of 23rd and F Streets. The post referenced protesters’ April claim that Bracey “violently assaulted” two students on the fourth day of the pro-Palestinian encampment in University Yard last spring.
The coalition posted a video on April 29 in which Bracey appeared to grab the phone of a student recording him. The April post claimed Bracey “attacked students,” and called on the GW community to reject the “abusive administration.”
“Let this be a message to Bracey and every administrator at this University,” the coalition’s Wednesday post reads. “We will never falter from our demands.”
The Hatchet was not able to verify the post’s claim that protesters spray-painted Bracey’s driveway. The “Disclose divest now” messaging had been removed from the bust as of Wednesday night.
The post warned University officials that pro-Palestinian protesters will continue to demonstrate at their events, homes and offices, and reiterated the coalition’s demands that GW disclose all endowments and investments with ties to Israel, divest from companies supplying technology and arms to Israel and “end the repression.”
“Every step you take we will be there to hold you accountable,” the post reads.
The coalition on Tuesday alleged that representatives will resume meetings with the administration to discuss their demands after officials agreed to five conditions, including that Bracey will be excluded from the meetings. A University spokesperson declined to comment on whether officials agreed to the five conditions.
