Officials added a leadership position to Chief Financial Officer Bruno Fernandes’ office and renamed the Division of Safety and Facilities, according to a University release published Tuesday.
The Office of the Executive Vice president, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer changed the DSF to the Division of Safety and Operations and named Baxter Goodly — former interim vice president for safety and facilities — the vice president for safety and operations, the release states. Officials also appointed Hemant Bakshi, who formerly served as the senior associate vice president for financial planning and operations, to the newly formed role of vice president for finance and assistant treasurer, according to the release.
The release states that the new division and leadership position will help “streamline services” and “enhance efficiency” in the office. Goodly will lead the DSO, continuing the responsibilities he held as vice president for safety and facilities in addition to overseeing the Office of Real Estate and Events and Venues, according to the release.
“As we assemble this larger team within the Division of Safety and Operations, I think we have a unique opportunity to synchronize our safety and security efforts, improve our operational efficiency and significantly enhance the student experience,” Goodly said in the release.
Bakshi will supervise Treasury and Risk Management within the office, the release states.
“I am excited by this opportunity to collaborate across business units to enhance our financial planning and working capital management, and strengthen our finances,” Bakshi said in the release.
University President Ellen Granberg said the office plays a key role in administering financial resources and guiding campus operations and safety measures. She said the name change and new leadership will bolster an “already talented team” as the University heads into the upcoming fiscal and academic year.
“Baxter and Hemant are both exceptional and proven leaders at GW, and I look forward to their continued success in their new roles,” Granberg said in the release.
