The bakery Paul displays a “Store Closed” sign inside its window in Western Market.

PAUL, a French bakery and cafe in Western Market, posted a sign announcing its closure late last month.

A spokesperson for the bakery did not immediately return a request for comment.

The bakery first opened near Lille, France, in 1889 and opened the Foggy Bottom location in 2012. The closure of the Foggy Bottom location follows closures of the 13th and F streets and 1000 Connecticut Ave. locations in the last two years. There are still open locations at Franklin Square and Tysons Galleria.

PAUL sold an assortment of in-house pastries, sandwiches and drinks. Students and faculty would often meet at the cafe for a coffee or students would spend a few hours at the corner store studying.
