A Metropolitan Police Department officer arrested a man at the intersection of 21st and Virginia Avenue on Sunday for allegedly assaulting her and failing to appear in court for prior charges, according to a public incident report filed Monday.
The MPD officer pulled out a 40 mm gun on the man in a park on the outskirts of campus after he allegedly assaulted her with “body fluid,” waved around a metal pipe in the direction of the officers and was “uncooperative” to their verbal commands, according to the report. The man, who officers identified as a suspect wanted on a DC Superior Court warrant by Judge Robert Rigsby for damage to property and crimes against a person, was arrested and processed at the Second District, the report states.
The officer who pulled out her gun did not fire any shots, according to the report.
The MPD officers appeared on the scene in response to a call placed for a domestic violence assault, the report states. The officers identified the suspect by his hospital wristband.
University officials issued a GW Alert at 1:35 p.m. requesting community members avoid the area due to “urgent” police activity. The University issued an all-clear alert at 2:50 p.m.
