Officials will close Gelman Library for the summer to perform heating, ventilation and air conditioning system updates.
The library will be closed from May 20 to Aug. 11 for HVAC repairs, according to an email Tuesday from Dean of GW Libraries and Academic Innovation Geneva Henry and Interim Vice President for Safety and Facilities Baxter Goodly. The email states that the renovations will be part of an “extensive” maintenance project to improve the library’s infrastructure set to finish in 2026.
“The completion of this project in 2026 will ensure a more sustainable and comfortable environment for our academic community, but it will require closing the Gelman building for periods of time outside the regular academic year,” the email states.
The email states that faculty and students enrolled in classes during the summer will have access to study spaces in the Burns Law Library, which is usually restricted to law students.
Online library services will remain available and community members can access virtual assistance with remote resources from library staff, the email states. Community members can also request library resources and pick them up at the library during its closure.
