A new pizza food vendor is arriving in District House.
Baba’s Pizza will replace DH Pizza and Pasta Co. in the District House basement when it opens Feb. 12, according to a sign at the vendor site. University spokesperson Julia Metjian said GW Dining and its Student Advisory Panel decided that DH Pizza and Pasta Co., which opened in August 2022, would be supplanted by the new pizza joint after a review of the former vendor’s offerings, adding that Baba’s will serve Halal-certified food.
“GW Dining will continue to seek feedback through the student advisory panel, surveys, and conversations with students to offer the best dining program for our community,” Metjian said in an email.
Metjian declined to comment on who operates Baba’s. But Baba’s was founded by the same person as Halal Shack, another Halal-certified vendor in District House that is run by Chartwells, a third-party dining vendor that runs GW’s dining system, including DH Pizza and Pasta Co.
GW is now the sixth university to have Baba’s Pizza on its campus, in addition to the University of Florida, the State University of New York at Albany, and Tulane, American and San Diego State universities.
The addition of Baba’s Pizza will grow the pizza options already on and around campus, including Andy’s Pizza in Western Market, which opened in December, &pizza inside Hotel Hive on F Street, and the Thurston Hall dining facility where they regularly serve pizza.
