D.C. Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a person stranded in a manlift at the Smith Center on Wednesday.

FEMS’ special operations team threw a rope to the individual, who was stranded 50 feet in the air, to straighten the lift so it could safely lower, per a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. The individual is now at ground level and uninjured, according to the post.

FEMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo said the team was dispatched at 12:10 p.m. Officers lowered the individual by about 1:30 p.m.

The individual appears to have been hanging the banner marking GW Swim and Dive’s 2023 Atlantic 10 championship win.
