D.C. Fire and Emergency Services extinguished a small fire in South Hall Thursday night.

FEMS Public Information Officer Vito Maggiolo said FEMS was dispatched at 6:20 p.m. and poured water on burning trash in the compactor at the base of South Hall’s trash chute. Maggiolo said the fire was contained to the area, and he did not know the cause of the fire.

More than 100 students gathered outside South Hall until they were allowed back in at about 6:43 p.m. GW issued an alert telling students to avoid the block at 6:30 p.m., issuing an all-clear at 6:59 p.m.
