Atlantic 10 Conference officials released the women’s basketball schedule for the upcoming season Tuesday.
The season will begin with 12 nonconference games, kicking it off with a crosstown duel against Howard on Nov. 6. The Revolutionaries will look to take advantage of their schedule to improve their 18-13 overall performance from last season.
This year, the team will return to the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving break, where they will play West Virginia on Nov. 23, Southern Illinois University on Nov. 24 and Charlotte on Nov. 25. The Revs first played in the San Juan Shootout during Thanksgiving 2021 where they won a 46-37 game against UT Martin, followed by a 50-61 loss to University of Florida. Last year, the Revolutionaries played in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Thanksgiving Tournament, where they beat East Tennessee State University before losing to UNLV and Lousiana Tech.
The team will play their first of 13 A-10 conference games at home against Richmond on Dec. 30. Last season, the Revs won 65-63 to Richmond, locking up their defense in the final 10 seconds of the game. Next, the Revs will head to Saint Joseph’s on Jan. 3 for their first game of 2024. The team lost 61-77 last season, with the Hawks coming in just above the Revs at sixth in the A-10 and tying them with a 9-7 conference record.
GW will host Duquesne on Jan. 10 and then travel to play St. Bonaventure on Jan. 14 and Dayton on Jan. 17, three teams the Revolutionaries beat last season. Afterward, the team will host Saint Louis in an opportunity for revenge after their 64-76 loss last season. They will continue the competition with another home game against rival George Mason, where the Revolutionaries came back 58-39 in their second game after an initial 57-67 first-game loss.
GW will play succeeding games against Fordham, Rhode Island and Virginia Commonwealth universities before the Revs matchup on Feb. 7 against St. Bonaventure in the Smith Center, then travel away to play the Richmond Spiders on Feb. 11 after playing them at home earlier in the season.
La Salle will head to GW on Feb. 14, following a 65-74 loss for the Revolutionaries the season prior. The team will take a quick trip over to George Mason on Feb. 17 to play them for the last time this regular season. The University’s close proximity to our rival allows students to support the Revolutionaries and fill out the stands at the stadium just a few Metro stops away.
Following another away game against Duquesne, GW will host the 2023 A-10 champions, University of Massachusetts. Last season, GW played the Minutewomen in their regular season final and were defeated 61-84. Sophomore guard Nya Robertson gave an impressive showing, scoring a game-high 15 points and four assists.
The last away game will take place at Davidson on Feb. 28, and then GW will close out conference action at home March 2 against Loyola Chicago, where graduate students Madison Buford, Nya Lok, Maxine Engel, Monica Marsh, Natalie Sierra-Vargas, Essence Brown and seniors Taylor Webster and Asjah Inniss will play their last regular-season game leading up to the A-10 tournament.
This will be Head Coach Caroline McCombs’ third season with the team, with both of her previous seasons resulting in a run to the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship. This year’s Championship will be held at Henrico Sports & Events Center in Henrico, VA.
