Alumna Lauren Shear will join the men’s basketball program as the next director of operations, she announced in a tweet Friday.
Shear, who graduated from GW in 2017, currently works as an athletics department communications associate, serving as the media contact for eight teams. Shear said in the tweet that she is “excited” to take on the new role.
“Surround yourself with only the very best,” men’s basketball head coach Jamion Christian said in a tweet about the hire.
Her Linkedin also lists her as the athletic department’s manager of creative and digital content and as a media relations game day staff member for the Washington Capitals.
Shear is the second female director of operations in five years after Victoria Sun held the position for two seasons from 2016 to 2018. She joins Saint Joseph’s Amanda Casale as the only two female directors of operations on men’s basketball teams in the Atlantic 10.
Austin Kelley, the former director of operations, left the program at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season and now holds the same position at Niagara. He was at GW for two seasons, splitting his time under former men’s basketball head coach Maurice Joseph and Christian.
