The Hatchet compiled a log of crimes that have occurred on campus during the recent protests over police brutality in the past month.
The crimes listed in the log occurred within a two-day window during demonstrations that have lasted more than two weeks. Whereas 30 total crimes occurred on campus since protests began in D.C. May 29, according to Metropolitan Police Department reports and the GW Police Department crime log, The Hatchet identified six of these crimes as related to demonstrations.
Mark Thunstedt – a GWPD detective – shared details pertaining to five crimes, and Hugh Carew – an MPD public information officer – shared a report for one crime.

An MPD officer reported three subjects entered the CVS and took 18 bars of Dove soap, six containers of Dial soaps, 16 sticks of large Dove Deodorant and 16 sticks of small Dove Deodorant before leaving the store without paying.

A GWPD officer found the head of a George Washington statue removed from a stand near the Greek Townhouses at the corner of 23rd and F streets. The head was found laying at the base of the stand. GWPD called Facilities Services following the discovery.

A GWPD officer on patrol saw a man running from the CVS with a cash register. Officers pursued, apprehended and arrested the subject. Officers also observed a broken front door after arriving at the scene. MPD responded to the arrest and brought the suspect to the department’s Seventh District Station for processing.
