Thousands of phone numbers have been added to the emergency text alert system, University President Thomas LeBlanc announced at the Board of Trustees meeting last week.
LeBlanc said 20,000 phone numbers were added to the GW Alert list in November, meaning 80 percent of the campus community is now receiving text alerts. Officials said in November that just half of the campus community received emergency text alerts.
Officials switched to an opt-out system for receiving emergency text alerts in November, automatically registering students for the alerts. Students can check the GW Alert website to determine if their phone number is registered to receive emergency notifications or remove their number from the list.
