Women’s basketball 2019-graduate and former point guard Mei-Lyn Bautista couldn’t stay away from the court for long.
Bautista will make her post-collegiate debut as a member of the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team, to ESPN reported last week. The Philippines is slated to compete in the 2019 William Jones Cup in Taiwan this month where Bautista will make her first appearance with the team.
The team’s William Jones Cup run is preparation for its 2019 FIBA Asia Women’s Cup and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, according to ESPN. The Philippines will open the tournament against New Zealand and follow with games against Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, ESPN reported.
Bautista will join three other U.S.-based former collegiate players on the 13-member squad.
In her senior campaign, she averaged 9.3 points per game and 3.9 assists per game. Bautista also earned Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team honors and an All-Conference Third Team nod in her final season with the squad.
She ended her GW career with more than 3,000 minutes played and nearly 800 points scored. She also made the record books, ranking eighth in total career assists (404) and seventh in career three-point field goals made (32 percent).
