Baseball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Dave Lorber will depart GW to take the head coaching position at Stockton University, according to a press release Thursday.

Lorber, who joined the program prior to the 2013 season along with then-first year head coach Gregg Ritchie, recruited several players who went on to become Major League Baseball draft picks during his tenure at GW, including Kevin Mahala in 2016, Joey Bartosic and Eddie Muhl in 2017, and Robbie Metz and Will Kobos in June of this year.

He will officially take the helm as Stockton’s first full-time head baseball coach on Jan. 7, according to the release.

“My goal is to impact the lives of our Stockton University student-athletes and give them a tremendous experience that will allow them to succeed not only on the baseball field but in life as well,” Lorber said in the release.

The athletic department did not immediately return a request for comment. Lorber is still listed on GW’s roster.

Lorber worked with the Colonials’ infielders and defense and developed the team’s hitting as an assistant coach. He helped the team to three 30-plus win seasons.

In the 2017 season, the Colonials owned the NCAA’s sixth highest double-play total and a program-best .982 fielding percentage, making them the third-best Division I defense in the nation.

The team ended the 2015 season with a then-program record .976 fielding percentage and followed in 2016 with a .974 fielding percentage.

In his second year with the program, Lorber ushered in a recruiting class that produced seven starters in their rookie seasons in 2014.

Prior to his time at GW, Lorber spent the 2012 season with Stony Brook as an assistant coach. He helped the Seawolves to a record season and an appearance at the College World Series. Lorber also spent one season at Division II Felician College as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
