GW Police Department officers arrested a student in Guthridge Hall earlier this month after responding to a domestic abuse call, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.
At about 9:36 p.m. on Oct. 12, four GWPD officers responded to the fifth floor of Guthridge Hall for a report of a possible assault involving domestic violence.
Two officers knocked on the door, and a crying female student answered. An officer entered the room and saw sophomore Genchen Li in the bedroom. Two of the officers interviewed Li and two interviewed the female student, the report stated.
Li told officers that he and the woman had a verbal disagreement about a PayPal transaction, which escalated when she called him an “idiot.” He became angry and pushed the student, who attempted to punch him, but Li blocked the strike with his left arm, according to the report.
The female student affirmed that she was arguing with Li about an incident in which she bought something for him with a PayPal account but later wanted to cancel the transaction.
She told officers that Li threw his cellphone at her back, threw pens across the room and hit her with an open hand on the right side of her neck, after which she struck Li in the shoulder with an open fist.
Both subjects declined medical attention at the time, but GWPD officers took photos of bruises, according to the report.
GWPD placed Li into custody for domestic violence and simple assault. MPD officers then transported Li to the Second District police station for processing, the report states.
“I argued with my girlfriend and then I pushed her,” Li said in an interview. “Then I used my arm to block her attack, and she called the police. But now we already talked with each other, and we are good right now. That’s it.”
