Swimming and diving head coach Brian Thomas announced the addition of Wesley Mattice to the program’s coaching staff as head diving coach, according to a release Wednesday.
Mattice is the second hire Thomas has made since taking over the program in July. Assistant coach Logan Arnold was hired earlier this month.
Before arriving at GW, Mattice was the head diving coach of USA Diving’s Junior National Team, and in 2015 he coached at the Pan American Junior Championships.
A graduate of and former diver at Southern Connecticut State, Mattice stayed local after college, spending five years as a coach at a nearby instructional diving program. He later competed at the U.S. Master’s Diving Championships in 2007 and coached at a dive club just outside of D.C.
Mattice joins two GW programs coming off of multiple seasons of improvement. On the diving side, a trio of divers qualified for the NCAA Diving Zone A Championships in March.
