An alumnus will likely lead the U.S. Census Bureau.
The White House announced Wednesday that President Donald Trump will nominate Steven Dillingham, who received a master of business administration from the University, to serve as the director of the census at the Department of Commerce. If confirmed by the Senate, Dillingham would oversee the once-a-decade census in 2020, which determines how many congressional seats each state receives and tallies key population statistics.
Dillingham would serve the remainder of a five-year term expiring in 2021.
The alumnus currently serves as the director of the Office of Strategic Information, Research and Planning for the Peace Corps. He also previously held positions at the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Department of Justice Trustee Program and the Office of Personnel Management, according to the White House release.
Dillingham holds a total of six degrees, having attended Winthrop University, the University of South Carolina and Georgtown University, the release states.
