Stockton Hall was evacuated Tuesday morning after smoke from a defective elevator triggered a fire alarm in the building.
Five fire trucks and one command truck were dispatched to the scene after the alarm went off, D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo said.
Maggiolo said no one was in the elevator at the time of the incident. Stockton Hall, a law school academic building, was evacuated and a stretch of 20th Street was shut down while fire crews responded the scene.
The call was cleared at 11:47 a.m., Maggiolo said.
University spokeswoman Maralee Csellar said the elevator is now back at “normal operations.”
