Back to school means late nights filled with cramming for exams and finishing last minute projects. You’re going to need some sugary fuel to get through. Look no further than Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, located at 1308 G Street NW in downtown D.C.
They serve up a variety of tasty and inventive doughnuts, like the nutty PB & J doughnut ($3.25) and the sugary maple bacon doughnut ($3.25). Astro also offers specialty doughnut flavors on a rotating basis, like french toast.
And as their name suggests, they aren’t only serving up a wide variety of doughnuts. They also offer crispy fried chicken ($5.75 to $20.50) and chicken fingers ($8.25). These two all-American favorites make Astro a tempting eatery for every craving.
Out of all their options, nothing can beat the crème brûlée doughnut ($3.25). The doughnut adds an irresistible twist to the timeless French dessert.
The outside of the doughnut has a sweet, flame-based glaze that offers a crunchy texture when you first bite into it. But the best part is the rich creamy filling that oozes out with silken vanilla custard.
The square-shaped crème brûlée doughnut goes above and beyond the requirements of a regular doughnut. From the torched sugar top to the feathery dough, this doughnut is spot on.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get one fresh out of the oven, so make sure to snag a warm one off the rack.
The crème brûlée doughnut is the perfect reward after a run, if you’ve scored high on a test or even if you scored low. This dessert could cheer up anyone.
