Riding the Metro is about to get a bit more expensive beginning this weekend.
Metro plans to increase fares by 10 to 25 cents per ride beginning Sunday, according to a release. Peak hours for Metrorail are from opening until 9:30 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
The changes will also extend operating hours until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The Metrorail system will be open from 5 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Sunday operating hours will be trimmed to 8 a.m. through 11 p.m.
Trains are also expected to arrive less frequently during rush hour, leaving every eight minutes from stations at the end of a line compared every six minutes as they do currently.
Metro’s Board of Directors approved the changes earlier this year to close a budget deficit and allow more time for maintenance projects when trains aren’t running.
The new schedule comes amid other new changes for the Metrorail system, including adding “Kennedy Center” to the name of the Foggy Bottom-GWU station.
