A student was arrested for assault after hitting another student outside Rosebar on Connecticut Avenue on Saturday night, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.
Michael Turkal, 21, was charged with assault with significant bodily injury, MPD spokeswoman Rachel Reid said in an email. Turkal struck the victim several times with his hands and feet on the sidewalk outside the club, according to the report. The victim sustained several serious injuries, including laceration to his left cheek that required eight stitches, a swollen left eye and a fractured orbital bone.
The victim left the scene and checked himself into GW Hospital for treatment with the encouragement of his friends, the report states. University Police Department officers responded, obtained Turkal’s information and contacted him. Turkal agreed to meet with UPD officers at UPD headquarters to give his side of the story, according to the document.
The victim contacted MPD, who responded to GW Hospital and then to UPD headquarters, the report said. MPD officers also went to Rosebar and obtained footage of the incident.
MPD officers arrested Turkal based on the statements made by both Turkal and the victim as well as the video footage of the incident, according to the report.
