GW signed a lease for a floor in the Watergate office building this month, a University spokeswoman confirmed this week.
Some administrative offices in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences will move into the building, SMHS spokeswoman Anne Banner said. The lease covers 200,000 square feet on the third floor, The Washington Business Journal reported.
“This is to replace current leased space where our lease is expiring,” Banner said.
Banner declined to say how long the lease lasts or provide the cost of rent. She did not say where the administrative offices were previously occupied.
Some SMHS offices are located in Ross Hall. The GW Medical Faculty Associates announced that they were expanding their offices into an Arlington, Va. location in December.
Penzance, which currently owns the Watergate, put it up for sale last week.
The occupancy of the building, including GW’s floor, is now at about 92 percent, an increase from the 45 percent occupancy the building had when Penzance purchased it. Other companies that have leased space in the building include the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Sage Publications.
Representatives from the Watergate building did not respond to requests for comment.
