The New York Times awarded one of three David Carr fellowships to alumna Amanda Hess Tuesday.
Hess, who graduated in 2007 with a degree in English and Creative Writing, will join the culture section, The New York Times reported.
The two-year fellowship is named after the late New York Times journalist David Carr, who, in addition to writing about technology and media in his weekly The Media Equation column, was also known for mentoring young journalists.
For the past two years, Hess has written about women, culture and technology for Slate. During her time at GW, she wrote about the arts for the The Hatchet and won the Vivian Nellis Memorial Prize which honors the most outstanding graduating senior in the Creative Writing department.
A panel of Times editors selected Hess and two other journalists for the prestigious fellowship out of a pool of 600 applicants. She will begin working at The Times on March 15.
