Now that the snow has (mostly) cleared up outside, you can get out and about this weekend. Take advantage of this fact by celebrating the Chinese New Year, hearing some stand-up comedy or just indulging in some chocolate.
Friday
Jamel Johnson
This staple of the D.C. stand-up comedy scene covers everything from Law & Order: SVU to gentrification and racism in his act.
The Big Hunt. 1345 Connecticut Ave NW. 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Saturday
Chinese New Year Festival
Be transported to China for the day. The Smithsonian American Art Museum is hosting a Chinese New Year festival where you could make a paper lantern for your dorm while watching a traditional lion parade. There will also be countless performances by Chinese artists and you can even watch the National Zoo’s new panda, Bei Bei, on the panda cam (like you don’t do this every day already).
The Smithsonian American Art Museum. 800 G St. NW from 11:30 am to 3 pm. Admission is free.
Sunday
End your weekend by browsing all of the records D.C. (and most of the East Coast) has to offer at the D.C. Record Fair. There will be vendors from all over the East Coast with records ranging from the latest Lana Del Rey album to a Beatles’ classic. Penn Social (where the event is being held) will also be providing drinks and disc jockeys will play music while you peruse the records. You can listen to your newly purchased record with a cup of hot cocoa when you get back to your dorm and attempt to start homework.
Penn Social. 801 E St. NW. 11 am-12 pm $5 Early Bird Admission, $2 from 12 pm-5pm. Tickets are available at the door.
McLean Chocolate Festival
Take a jaunt to McLean, Va. in the name of chocolate. The fifth annual McLean Chocolate Festival will feature a variety of chocolate vendors and a chocolate making demonstration. As a bonus, all of your purchases will go in support of local charities.
1234 Ingleside Dr., McLean, VA. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $2.
