GW’s online learning office and teaching and learning center will be combined into one office, the University announced Wednesday. University Librarian Geneva Henry will oversee the new division.
Interim Provost Forrest Maltzman, who is currently leading the restructuring of the provost’s office, made the decision to consolidate the offices, according to the release. He said Henry was a “natural choice” to oversee libraries, online learning and teaching efforts.
“Her background in digital scholarship and technology will prove invaluable as we continue to expand our efforts in these areas,” Maltzman said in a statement.
Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Dianne Martin had previously overseen the University Teaching and Learning Center.
Associate Provost and Chief Academic Technologies Officer PB Garrett will run the daily operations of the offices and will oversee GW’s eDesign shop, the in-house option for faculty looking to create online courses, according to the release.
Paul Schiff Berman, the former vice provost for online education and academic innovation, left his post at the end of last semester and officials seemed unlikely to replace him.
Officials have been considering changes to the structure of the provost’s office since Provost Steven Lerman announced that he would step down at the end of last semester.
