Women’s basketball’s senior forward Jonquel Jones was named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Player of the Week for games played between Jan. 4 and Jan. 10, the league announced announced Monday.
This selection is the fourth time this season that Jones has won the award. Earlier this season she won three Player of the Week awards consecutively (Nov. 23-Dec. 7). She now leads the conference with four.
Through her three years as a Colonial, the preseason All-American has been named A-10 Player of the Week 12 times, a GW record.
During the week, Jones led the Colonials to victories over Rhode Island and Dayton averaging 21 points, 16 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2 blocks per game.
Jones knocked down a three pointer to give the Colonials the lead at Dayton, breaking a tie with just over a minute left to play. The game-winner was exactly what GW needed in the 62-61 win.
The 6-foot-4-inch forward has been a force on the boards as she leads not only the A-10, but also the nation in rebounds per game (15.2) and double-doubles (13).
The versatile Jones ranks second in the A-10 in scoring (17.2 ppg) and blocks (2.7 bpg) while only trailing graduate student point guard Lauren Chase in assists for GW.
On Wednesday Jan. 13, Jones and the Colonials will play host to La Salle (3-12) at the Smith Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7 pm.
