A man tried to break into Foggy Bottom Grocery early Sunday morning, the owner of the store said.
Kris Hart, who owns the F Street store, said he received a call from ADT Security Systems at around 4 a.m., saying that an alarm at the store’s front door was going off. He said the time and the fact that it was going off because of the front door was “concerning,” so he ran to the store from his apartment at 2400 M Street.
Hart said he saw a man trying to break the door handle to get into the building, but the possible intruder ran away when he saw Hart. He added that police arrived at the store at around the same time.
“As soon as he saw me, the guy took off,” Hart said.
Aquita Brown, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police Department, said MPD reports indicate that MPD responded to the business alarm and the inside of the building is said to be “secure.”
