A man not affiliated with GW was arrested early Sunday morning for entering Amsterdam Hall through a fire exit after being banned, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.
University Police Department officers had escorted the man, who was not named in the report, out of the building at around 2 a.m. for “being disorderly to staff in the building.” He was arrested after he “intentionally bypassed” Amsterdam Hall’s security system by having a person in the building let him in from an alarmed fire exit about 20 minutes later.
Before the man reentered the residence hall, an MPD officer had told him that “there would be no justifiable reason” for him to enter the building again that day, and he had said he understood, according to the report.
Officers identified the man through security footage and found him in a third-floor room. He was described as about 20 years old, black, about 220 pounds and more than six feet tall. At that time, UPD officers also found marijuana nearby, University spokeswoman Maralee Csellar said in an email Tuesday.
