GW is a philanthropic cause, right?
Let’s hope Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook thinks the University is — because Cook, who is the 2015 Commencement speaker, will put his $120 million net worth to charitable causes, Fortune reported.
Cook, who has been with Apple since 1998, told Fortune magazine that he wants to continue to direct his riches toward worthwhile organizations after he pays for his 10-year-old nephew’s college education. He has publicly advocated for human rights, immigration reform and ending AIDS, Fortune reported.
Cook told Fortune that he has already been donating quietly, and said he sees philanthropy as an extension of leadership. Instead of writing random checks, he said he will create a more structured plan for his donating.
“You want to be the pebble in the pond that creates the ripple for change,” he said.
Cook’s net worth is made up of stocks in Apple. He also holds about $665 million in restricted stocks, Fortune reported.
And with his philanthropy plan now public, it begs the question: Could GW get a Cook gift? Cook has only publicly donated to one university and that was his alma mater, Auburn University.
Experts told The Hatchet earlier this month that GW could potentially build a partnership with Apple or get a Cook gift if he takes an interest in the University.
