The Colonials tied for first place at Maryland’s quad meet Friday night, finishing alongside the Terrapins with a score of 194.925.
Led by freshman Cami Drouin-Allaire, who became the third GW gymnast in program history to achieve a 9.95 on vault, and freshman Chelsea Raineri, who earned second place with a season-high score of 9.925, GW was able to secure a record team score of 49.475 in the event.
The team also went 47.925 on uneven bars, 48.30 on balance beam and a season-high mark of 49.225 on floor exercise, en route to its first-place finish.
Squash
Men’s squash (10-10) suffered two losses and earned one win in this weekend’s College Squash Association Team Nationals.
Bested by No. 10 Cornell on Friday, GW bounced back Saturday with a 6-3 win over No. 14 Navy. Sophomore Andres de Frutos and freshman Mason Ripka both swept their opponents in the victory.
The Colonials concluded the weekend with a 6-3 loss to No. 16 Bates College on Sunday morning to finish the season ranked 14th in the nation.
Softball
Softball (3-7) traveled to Orlando this weekend for the Citrus Classic.
After dropping a close 7-6 contest to Arkansas on Friday, GW responded with an 8-0 six-inning win over Marist later that day. Sophomore Paige Kovalsky pitched a complete game and struck out five against Marist in her first start of the season.
The Colonials would also split day two of the tournament, taking down Virginia 16-9 in 10 innings, but then falling to Elon in the nightcap, 7-2.
The win over Virginia was GW’s first in program history, as four Colonials’ home runs, including a grand slam from junior Morgan Matetic, helped secure the milestone.
