Men’s basketball received seven votes in the Associated Press’ top 25 preseason poll released Friday.
Of the D.C. area schools, the Colonials received the third-highest number of votes, trailing No. 9-ranked Virginia and Atlantic 10 conference foe VCU, which earned a No. 15 overall ranking.
GW came in ahead of District neighbor Georgetown, which received five votes, as well as the University of Maryland, which earned three.
Dayton was the only other A-10 team represented in the poll, collecting a total of six votes.
Last season, the Colonials received 43 votes in the AP Top 25 poll during Week 8, the most they would receive all year. They were never able to break into the Top 25.
GW also received one vote in the USA Today Coaches poll released earlier this month.
Kentucky and Arizona received the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls.
