D.C. may be shedding its reputation for having the worst traffic in the country.
A report released this week ranked the District far behind other metropolitan areas, including Los Angeles, which earned the top spot for the most congested roads in the U.S.
D.C. came in at No. 8, behind Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Seattle, San Jose, New York and Miami. The report found that drivers in the District spent 73 hours stuck in traffic last year compared to an average of 90 hours in Los Angeles.
In 2012, researchers at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute dubbed D.C. the worst city for traffic jams.
Tom Tom, a Dutch company that sells mapping products, found in its report released Wednesday that the District had a congestion level of 24 percent in 2013.
Los Angeles congestion rose to 36 percent, up two percentage points from the previous year. That increase brought congestion to the highest level in five years, according to the report.
