The Washington Monument will reopen in May, just in time for Commencement.
The National Parks Service is still deciding an exact date to open the monument, which has been closed for repairs after an earthquake in 2011.
Repairs will cost about $15 million, and half of that amount will be paid by D.C. businessman David Rubenstein.
While repairs were underway, the monument was covered in scaffolding and illuminated with nearly 500 lights, which were removed in November as scaffolding was taken down. The U.S. Capitol Dome will get a similar treatment as it is repaired.
Chef José Andrés will be the Commencement speaker this year, the University revealed Thursday.
