Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested two students in Thurston Hall last week for intent to distribute marijuana and other drugs, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
But the 19-year-old students were later charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia but not intent to distribute, U.S. District Attorney spokesman Bill Miller said Thursday.
The University Police Department had searched the students’ fourth-floor room after receiving a report of a suspicious odor around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 18.
Officers found plant stubs, about 50 white pills, “chocolate-baked marijuana” and $620 in cash, according to MPD documents. They also found pill bottles, six rolling papers, two digital scales, two metal grinders and assorted pipes and vaporizers.
The documents did not name the students.
The students will appear in D.C. Superior Court on March 19. If they complete a diversion program, which could require them to perform community service or go through substance abuse education, the court might drop their case.
