Junior Ian Crueldad dropped his bid for executive vice president of the Student Association late Monday night.
Crueldad, who boasted the loftiest goals out of any candidate in the race, said he did not feel the SA was the best way for him to support other students at the University.
“I feel like everyone else is very vague. There’s not a lot of solid ideas,” Crueldad said.
Crueldad also blamed this year’s shorter campaign season, which he said favored SA insiders by not giving other candidates enough time to prepare for elections.
“I felt like a lot of students didn’t get to prepare as much as they could have. I felt like it was way too early in the semester, and I strongly believe that it actually helped a lot of people who were in the SA,” he said.
Crueldad, a transfer student who arrived at GW last fall, had pledged to tackle campus affordability, such as giving students who live on campus two free meals a day and cutting fees for laundry and printing. He also wanted to add a student liaison to the D.C. Council and host celebration days for Passover, gay pride and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
He threw his support behind Sen. Chris Stillwell, ESIA-U. Stillwell is the only senator in the race for position, which leads the SA Senate.
His departure leaves Stillwell, who has advocated for priority registration for veterans and upgraded furniture in Gelman Library, running against junior Avra Bossov and sophomore Paul Lisbon.
