Missing man spotted in AP photo taken to GW Hospital for evaluation

A New York man, missing since New Year’s Day, was found in D.C. and taken to GW Hospital Sunday after his family spotted him in an Associated Press photo.

Nicholas Simmons left his New York home on New Year’s Day with nothing more than the clothes on his back, and was reported missing until his family saw the picture in a story about frigid temperatures across the country. Simmons was taken to GW Hospital for evaluation Sunday, according to a CNN report.

Simmons’ sister contacted the reporter and photographer on Twitter after recognizing her brother and his family worked with the Metropolitan Police Department to locate Simmons, who was found near 6th Street and Constitution Avenue.

According to police, Simmons is physically fine and the hospital visit was a precaution.
