The government shutdown has a new casualty under its belt: Ultimate Frisbee.

The women’s Ultimate Frisbee team, who usually hold their practices on the National Mall, have been forced to pack up their discs and relocate to Lerner Health and Wellness to prepare for a looming scrimmage this Sunday.
Lisa Kowalski, co-president of the team, said while she had been expecting the area to be closed off during the government shutdown, she was still unsure where their new practice location would be.
Hauling out to the Mount Vernon Campus is out of the question, Kowalski said, as the fields were booked long before the lapse in appropriations. The Ultimate Frisbee team’s practice fate now lies in the hands of the rugby team, who could share the field.
On the varsity level, Executive Director for Athletic Communications at GW Brian Sereno said only the rowing teams have switched from outdoor practices to indoor conditioning.
“As the spring is the main season for our rowing teams, they can adjust their practices to include strength training and erg workouts (essentially indoor rowing) rather than rowing on the Potomac,” he wrote in an email. “This scenario has been appropriately planned for and handle.”

The Hatchet incorrectly reported that Brian Sereno said most teams had switched from outdoor to indoor practices. In fact, he just said that the rowing teams have switched to indoor practices.
