Students will be able to pay with Colonial Cash at Tasty Kabob within the next few weeks, making the food truck that serves up Middle Eastern cuisine the first to accept GWorld since students successfully lobbied for the move last year.
The University announced in December that food trucks around campus, which mostly line the sidewalks on H Street, would be able to apply for the GWorld program. Two trucks were in the final stages of the approval process in June, University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said, and several other vendors have “expressed interest” in accepting GWorld.
A few food trucks with brick-and-mortar restaurants already take GWorld, like the Lebanese food truck Kababji D.C.
Tasty Kabob, which offers halal fixtures like lamb over rice, has meal prices ranging from $7 to $9.
The D.C. food truck industry has stirred controversy over the years for competing with traditional restaurants, and the D.C. Council passed legislation over the summer that hammered out regulations for the mobile eateries.
