Weekend outlook: a food truck paradise, Michael Jackson dance party and a free outdoor concert from the National Symphony Orchestra

It’s tribute time: Celebrate MJ Day at the 9:30 Club tonight. Courtesy of the 9:30 Club.

It’s Labor Day weekend so use that extra day to explore the District and enjoy the last days of summer.

– The Lot at Union Kitchen kicks off its first food fest this Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. Union Kitchen transforms its bland asphalt parking lot into a food truck paradise, complete with live music and $5 drinks.

– Finally, the perfect opportunity to show off your pelvic thrusts and thriller dance moves. The 9:30 Club will host MJ Day 2013, a dance party tribute to Michael Jackson, at its signature time, 9:30 p.m. Proceeds will also benefit the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Tickets are $15 online.

– National Symphony Orchestra will perform in front of the Capital this Sunday as part of a Labor Day celebration. Grab a blanket, some friends and head down when the gates open at 3 p.m.  This year they’re mixing it up with music from the Lone Ranger and Lincoln. And it’s free. Music starts at 8 p.m.
