Public radio luminary Ira Glass and beloved storyteller David Sedaris will return this year to a renovated Lisner Auditorium.

The University announced the theater’s 2013-14 lineup Monday, with Lisner mainstays Glass and Sedaris as the biggest names on the calendar.
Glass, who has hosted the Public Radio International show “This American Life” for its more than 500 episodes, last came to Lisner over two years ago.
He will join dancers from the Monica Bill Barnes and Company on stage Feb. 8, 2014. The trio will combine radio with dance for an unusual new show that premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York in February.
“I’m combining two things that have never been seen together: radio and dance, one of which contains no words, and the other contains no movement,” Glass told the audience then.
Sedaris, an essayist, satirist and humorist, comes nearly every year to Lisner. The New York Times bestselling author will hit the stage Oct. 8, promoting his latest book, “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls.”
Lisner will open up this fall with a brand new interior, including a lighting and sound system, reupholstered seats, new carpets and a fresh coat of paint. The University budgeted more than $1 million worth of interior and exterior renovations to Lisner over the last two years.
Lisner has needed to keep up with heavier competition from new theaters across the District. The 70-year-old venue booked 22 percent more events last year, Maryann Lombardi, executive director and director of partnership development at Lisner Auditorium, said in a release.
