Paint was splattered on the Lincoln Memorial’s 19-foot Abraham Lincoln statute overnight, prompting the memorial to close until further notice.
The base of the memorial was also splashed with paint, and the structure has been blocked off since about 2 a.m.
The U.S. Park Police have not released any details about possible suspects, and said no words or symbols were found in the vandalized area.
