Need a new Metro card?
Wait until Oct. 1 and you’ll pay just $2 — less than half of the current price of $5, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced Thursday.
That’s the same price as buying a round-trip paper farecard just once, part of WMATA’s attempt to transition away from paper farecards.
The SmarTrip cards at station dispensers and CVS stores will still cost $10, but come with $8 preloaded in fare value.
