Six of the seven GW students studying or interning in Egypt this summer have evacuated because of political and social turbulence that has rocked the country for weeks.
The University arranged for the undergraduate and graduate students to return to the U.S. or travel to nearby Jordan, University spokeswoman Candace Smith said.
GW moved to pull the students from Egypt after the U.S. State Department urged American citizens to evacuate the country Wednesday following the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
But one student, junior Anum Malik, chose to remain in Egypt. When massive protests broke out in Cairo, Malik headed to Ethahadeya, the Presidential Palace.

The Hatchet incorrectly reported that Malik went to Tahrir Square when in fact she went to the presidential palace.
