Soft-rock band The Fray, who has strung piano-driven ballads over the airwaves for a decade, will perform on campus for Colonials Weekend in October.
Known for songs like “How to Save a Life” and “Over My Head,” the Grammy-award nominated band will headline the weekend that draws students’ families to the University each year.
They will perform Oct. 19 at 9 p.m. at the Smith Center, the University announced Wednesday.
The band, which debuted in the early 2000s, announced earlier this month that it had begun working on and will release its fourth album in 2014. Their last album, “Scars and Stories” was released last year and received mixed reviews from critics.
This will be the second year in a row the University has brought a music group to the perform at the annual event. The band Train performed last fall, marking a change from several years of featuring comedians like Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Fallon.
Tickets will be available starting July 8 at 10 a.m. through the University’s website.
The website Concert Ideas pegs the band’s booking price at over $100,000, which the University typically looks to recoup through ticket sales. GW spent almost a half-million dollars on bringing bands to campus last fall.
